8/3/20: IMPORTANT: CHANGES IN THE CLUBS OFFICE

Hello Clubs/Student Organization/Department Leaders,

Hoping that this email finds you all healthy and happy!  We are planning for the virtual fall semester and want to make sure that your members are kept informed every step of the way.

First off, you are receiving this email because you were designated as your organization’s point of contact. If you are no longer serving in that role, please forward this email to the appropriate person or re-submit the form with their contact information: RSO Point of Contact Form

There are some exciting changes within our department!

The GOOD news is that our staff remains committed to supporting our HSU students in every way possible and we have some great resources for you all to remain active this year.

The OTHER  news is that we have some NEW terminology for everyone to learn:

  • The Clubs & Activities office has merged with the “Office of Student Life” and will be abbreviated as OSL

  • Clubs/Student Organizations will now be called “Registered Student Organizations” and abbreviated as RSO

  • Reactivation/Activation is now called the “Recognition Process”

  • OrgSync is no longer what we are using to manage RSO’s. Beginning August 1st all forms, etc. will now be on a new platform called Lumberjack Link

We have also had some changes in our department structure. In addition to Y.E.S. [Youth Educational Services] being a part of the Office of Student Life, we will now oversee operations at the Social Justice, Equity, and Inclusion Center [SJEIC], which was formerly known as the MCC [Multicultural Center].

As we move forward in providing HSU students with a more robust and inclusive experience, the Office of Student Life will focus on three pillars:

  • Community Engagement Programs related to volunteer services

  • Leadership Development for student club leaders and fraternity and sororities

  • Social Justice, Equity, and Inclusion education and support services

In the next couple of weeks, you will receive information about the RSO Recognition Process.

All of the trainings below [note the headings that state why they are required] must be completed by BOTH the President and Treasurer, but additional members - especially future leaders - are encouraged to complete them, as well!

Mandated by CSU

  • Title IX [Sexual Assault, Sexualized Violence]

  • Alcohol, Tobacco, & Other Drugs [ATOD]

  • Anti-Hazing

Required by Humboldt State

  • General RSO Policy & Procedures

  • Virtual Engagement

  • Financial Management Training

AGAIN YOU WILL BE RECEIVING DETAILS ABOUT HOW THE RECOGNITION PROCESS AND HOW TO COMPLETE THESE TRAININGS SOON!

Once all the required trainings are completed, members will sign up for the “RSO Leader Post-Training Capstone” - a 90 minute interactive discussion highlighting key elements from all the trainings. THIS WILL BE THE FINAL STEP! After that, your RSO will be allowed full privileges.

Note: OSL staff will contact your advisors and provide them with the link to the required training and any forms that need to be completed.

The BEST news is that your RSO will be assigned an OSL staff member - which we are calling your GPS [Guide/Program Specialist] who will be available to assist you every step of the way. We are trying our best to make this as easy as possible for all.

Stay tuned for more information and check out the Office of Student Life website: osl.humboldt.edu

REMEMBER: If you wish to assign another member as the point of contact, please have someone complete this form: RSO Point of Contact Form

Wishing you all the best in the upcoming semester!

Take care,
Pamela Kirschner
